When you plan to stay, it helps to live near places you will actually keep using. These are some of San Diego County's most lasting ones.
Places to return to
- Balboa Park — A 1,200-acre park of gardens and museums in the middle of the city. You can walk the grounds for free, and each museum sets its own admission. Official site Map
- Coronado Beach and the Hotel del Coronado — Morning walks and sunset strolls on a wide beach in front of the Victorian Hotel del Coronado, a National Historic Landmark since 1977. Map
- Living Coast Discovery Center — On the Chula Vista bayfront: Turtle Lagoon, shark and ray exhibits, birds of prey on Raptor Row and trails through the refuge. Official site Map
- Cabrillo National Monument — Tidepools, coastal trails, the Old Point Loma Lighthouse and wide views of San Diego Bay and the Pacific Ocean. Official site Map
Seasons and traditions
- The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch — A spring tradition in Carlsbad: rows of ranunculus blooming above the ocean. The 2027 season begins March 1. Official site Map
- Old Town San Diego State Historic Park — A walkable historic park of restored buildings and museums, with living-history programs about Rancho-period California. Official site Map
- USS Midway Museum — Walk the decks of a carrier that was commissioned in 1945, right on the waterfront at Burnham Navy Pier. Official site Map
